Big Brothers Big Sisters in Murray–Calloway County
The Buddy Campaign Fundraiser:
The campaign kick-off was March 11th in hopes of reaching the goal of $30,000.00 by April 22, 2011. As of that date, 50% of our goal had been met and the campaign deadline has been extended to May 31st. With donations coming in daily, we hope to meet and exceed our goal once again this year. Our Buddy Campaign Celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10th with a luncheon at the Stables in the Curris Center from 12:00 to 1:00.
Volunteer Training was held on Monday, March 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Stables at the Curris Center. Attendance was low and we need to evaluate our process of recruiting more volunteers.
“Summer in the Park 2011”:
BBBS is once again partnering with Murray and Calloway Family Resource Centers, 4-H, and Memorial Baptist Church in an effort to provide a healthy lunch and fun, educational programs to children daily beginning June 1 – July 15. BBBS will host the event each Friday, known as “Feathers and Fur Fridays,” utilizing Humane Society contacts for programs.
“Hooked on Fishing & Not on Drugs”:
This will be a fun event with “Bigs for A Day” with our kids this summer on June 4, 2011, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. As a partner with Calloway County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, we look forward to this event each year.
The Murray Bass Club
Recently contacted our office and we have planned an event on Monday, May 9, 2011 to introduce our kids to the club members, climb aboard club member boats, and learn about water safety. Later this summer, we hope to plan a day of fishing with the kids and Murray Bass Club members.
